Description
HOTSTART In-block Engine Heaters
Faster cold starts, less engine wear, lower start-up emissions.
The HOTSTART DD8L-102 is a 1000W (1kW) 240V in-block engine heater. This direct immersion heater threads into a core plug, threaded plug or plate opening in the engine block and heats the coolant directly, so the engine turns over and reaches operating temperature faster in cold conditions. It is the genuine HOTSTART part for a wide range of Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Ford, Hino, Mack, Navistar/International and Oliver engines.
The standard assembly includes a power cord with plug. The cord is 2-wire with ground, 6 ft (1.8 m), HPN. Mack E9, ENDT865, 866 and 1000 Series V8 engines use two heaters. On Detroit Diesel 6V92 and 8V92 engines the heater threads into the oil cooler as the alternate location.
Where the DD8L-102 installs
This block heater (240 V, 1000 W) mounts directly into the water jacket of the engine, reducing engine wear due to cold starts by up to 50 percent. It can be used on:
- Caterpillar 3176 10.3 L engines (through 1995): replaces the 3/4″ (0.75″) threaded plug on the right side of the engine, just below the head.
- Caterpillar 3304 and 3306 engines: replaces the 3/4″ (0.75″) plug on the left side of the engine.
- Cummins ISC and QSC 8.3 L, ISL and QSL 9.0 L engines: replaces the 3/4″ (0.75″) NPT plug in the right front side of the engine.
- Detroit Diesel 6V92 and 8V92 engines (alternate location): threads into the 3/4″ (0.75″) NPT opening in the oil cooler housing. Please note that not all engines have this opening.
- Detroit Diesel 8.2 L V8 engines: threads into the 3/4″ (0.75″) NPT opening on the engine block.
- Detroit Diesel Series 30 engines: mounts in the 3/4″ (0.75″) NPT opening in the engine block.
It comes with a 2-wire, grounded, 6 ft (1.8 m) HPN cord and plug.
